The Professor & Mystie

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:20 PM ]:  ::Tension hummed along her nerves but she held it in.  That burst before appalled her, and the resulting quake drove home the fact that emotions were dangerous, highly dangerous::  Im listening .. ::She had walked beside him in silence until she could take the silence no more::

A Sad Professor [ 4:23 PM ]:  ::he walked along beside her and could feel her tension growing..he couldnt believe she had waited so long to speak..another puff of smoke raised up from the pipe as he looked to her and spoke::  That beast was once a man, I'm surprised he didn't tell you...

MystieRose LeFey [4:26 PM]:  He may have ::Confessed reluctantly::  I sometimes block things I dont want to hear.
MystieRose LeFey [
4:26 PM ]:  But I want to hear it now.

A Sad Professor [ 4:28 PM ]:  Of course...I understand..::he gave a nod:: The man was cursed..transformed into a beast that could become a wolf..a beast..but not a man.  When the world became too much for him..he could shift into a wolf and hide in the world of animals. ::he took another puff from his pipe:: Something happened to him recently..some struggle within that keeps him in beast form..He tells me he can feel the man trying to escape

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:31 PM ]:  I first met him as a wolf ... ::Volunteered the information:: He came when ... things were different.  Before I was here.  He stayed for a while.

A Sad Professor [ 4:33 PM ]:  He's lived many lives from what I can tell..and from what he's told me.  He doesnt volunteer much information does he? ::chuckled lightly::

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:34 PM ]:  ::Slid a glance over to him::  No.  Why should he?  ::She brooded a moment, then asked::  How is it you know him so well? ::She considered telling him of Lacy's dream, but didnt like volunteering information needlessly::

A Sad Professor [ 4:38 PM ]:  He was the first creature I met when I came here..I hunted him for a while until I saw the light as they say.  He was one I was searching for for help..not for killing.  ::offered a smile to her:: and what dream is on your mind?

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:40 PM ]:  ::She was strong, and he was old.  There was a chance she could take him down.  That was her first impulse.  She squelched it.  And wondered if he knew what she had been::  Lacy had a dream that disturbed her.

A Sad Professor [ 4:42 PM ]:  Would you like to fill me in on the details? ::felt her intentions and couldnt help but smile slightly::

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:44 PM ]:  ::She blinked a few times.::  Man-wolf ... that could describe Lycan.  Hm. ::More to herself than him::  Who is the beast?

A Sad Professor [ 4:48 PM ]:  Who is he?..::he pondered for a moment:: I don't know the answer to that...the beast is a manifestation of the primal beast inside all of us...Lycanthro just seems to be forever trapped in that form..::gave a rub to his chin:: Have you ever looked deep into his eyes?

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:49 PM ]:  None of your .. ! ::She broke off abruptly and held her breath for a long moment, then expelled it::  Why do you ask?

A Sad Professor [ 4:52 PM ]:  ::he blinked at her initial response and cleared his throat:: Its said that you cannot look deeply into the eyes of a complete beast without feeling terror...if there is still man there..you should feel no terror

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:54 PM ]:  Terror is the last thing I feel when I look at him.
MystieRose LeFey [
4:54 PM ]:  ::And then looked shocked that she'd said that::

A Sad Professor [ 4:54 PM ]:  ::he gave a nod:: Thats a very good thing...for all of us

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:55 PM ]:  Is that woman still after him?

A Sad Professor [ 4:57 PM ]:  Serra?..no.  I don't think so.  Her directions seem to have changed.  ::he paused walking to empty his pipe and take a peak at the night sky:: Is he still safe?

MystieRose LeFey [ 4:59 PM ]:  Im not his keeper. ::The words might have been sharp, but her tone was surprisingly mild, almost apologetic::  If he is where I think he is, I will go there shortly and do what I can.
MystieRose LeFey [
5:00 PM ]:  Understand something, Professor.  I will do whatever I can for him.  Whatever that takes and whatever that means.  Even against you, or Lazerous, or anyone.

A Sad Professor [ 5:02 PM ]:  Mystie...I'm not saying that you have a job to take care of him..I'm only telling you what I know about him..and how important that it is that he stay here in Darby..  My work here is nearly done...as for Lazerous..his destiny is no longer tied to Lycanthro.

MystieRose LeFey [ 5:04 PM ]:  ::She had a good idea who his destiny WAS with, and part of her hated Lacy for that.  The other was glad.  It left her free.::  Lycan isnt my job, Professor.  He is .. my friend.  ::With that admission, she stopped walking:: Good night.

Lycan & Mystie

MystieRose LeFey [ 7:58 PM ]:  ::She left the Professor without further hesitation.  Her feet followed the familar path to the old house down the river.  It look abandoned, and she kept it that way, with orders to those from the Estate to leave it be as it was.  She suspected some workers came here anyway as some of the plants seemed to have recieved care, but she turned a blind eye to that.::

WolfsFlesh [ 8:02 PM ]:  ::he was still in the room that he felt was safe..he'd moved away from the corner and was sitting at a broken down writing desk..well more like crouching in front of it and pushing some old papers he'd found around atop it::

MystieRose LeFey [8:04 PM]:  ::Her steps were silent for human, but no doubt quite audible to his ears.  She entered the house from the kitchen and walked across to the stairs, taking them two at a time.  She wasnt anxious.  Just ... wasting no time.  She entered the room and almost .. almost .. sighed with relief that he was still there.  The door jam seemed a good place to halt and she leaned against it, arms folded::

WolfsFlesh [8:06 PM]:  ::his great head was turned to her, light reflected from his eyes as his head tilted:: I didn't think you'd ever get back....I felt you coming for quite some time..::he looked back at the crumpled papers::...I can't read any of this..

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:08 PM ]:  What are you doing?  ::Pushed off from the jam and crossed over to him::  Not enough light to see anyway ::Half muttered and dug around one of the drawers to pull out a dusty candle.  She blew on it, away from him.  Matches were found in the same drawer and she eyed them doubtfully::

WolfsFlesh [ 8:10 PM ]:  I don't know..just some papers I found in this drawer.  Light or not...damnit..I'm losing my ability to read.  It may sound strange..::He looked back up to her:: But Its hard to put sentences together in my own head...::He sat back on the floor::

MystieRose LeFey [8:11 PM]:  ::Lit the candle and set it carefully down while absorbing his words and comprehension dawning::  Your form?  ::Those usually expressionless eyes held some expression now.  Concern::

WolfsFlesh [8:14 PM]:  ::he shrugged lightly:: I feel like I'm losing my grip..::he cleared his throat..trying to clear the gruff from it...though it was quite impossible:: There is more to me than this...

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:15 PM ]:  What can I do for you?  ::She turned fully towards him, both hands extended::

WolfsFlesh [ 8:17 PM ]:  Tell me what you see when you look at me...

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:18 PM ]:  I see ... you. ::The vertical lines between her brow deepened::  What am I supposed to see?

WolfsFlesh [ 8:20 PM ]:  ::he shook his head:: Whatever you want to see...::he reached a hand out to her:: Come here..

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:22 PM ]:  I should tell you, I had a conversation with the Professor about your history .. ::She went unhesitantly to him::
MystieRose LeFey [
8:22 PM ]:  I should have asked you directly.  I apologize for that.

WolfsFlesh [ 8:24 PM ]:  ::He took her hand and tugged her gently down to sit beside him as he leaned back against the wall..another shake of his head:: It doesnt matter..my history is no secret...I just don't advertize it..

MystieRose LeFey [
8:28 PM ]:  ::She went to her knees, the hard floor unnoticed, kneeling in front of him::  What is happening to you?  Can you no longer go back to the wolf form?  The Professor mentioned ... a man.

WolfsFlesh [ 8:31 PM ]:  ::he looked down briefly and thought for a moment..then back to her:: I'm stuck like this...its taking me over....and..as far as the man goes..he's lost somewhere..underneath all of this..::lifts up a long fingered hand and makes a fist::

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:32 PM ]:  ::she reached for that hand, curling her own fingers over his closed ones::  Where is the wolf?  Why is he lost to you?  ::She didnt want to address the issue of the 'man'::

WolfsFlesh [ 8:36 PM ]:  I lost touch with it...It was too comfortable..too easy to escape into that world of animal.  If I forced myself to revert to that form now..i would never come back..

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:36 PM ]:  And this form?  Is it easier?  Is it more .. you?

WolfsFlesh [ 8:37 PM ]:  Its closer yes...I can walk..move mostly like a person..I can hold things..and feel.  ::gave a squeeze to her hand very easily and reached his free hand out to her cheek..the sharp nails of his fingers gliding softly over her cheek::

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:39 PM ]:  ::Two blinks and a swallow::  There is a 'but' in there ... your thoughts are .. fragmenting?  ::Or maybe her's were::

WolfsFlesh [ 8:41 PM ]:  A but?..::he asked quietly and touched her bottom lip softly ..easing his grip on her hand just a bit::

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:43 PM ]:  ::Her breath hitched and she ducked her head, not knowing what else to do, but she didnt move her hand away::

WolfsFlesh [ 8:46 PM ]:  ::he moved his hand away from her face and rubbed at his own cheek..taking in a deep breath:: Mystie..I'm sorry...

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:48 PM ]:  For my ... inadaquacies?  ::She did pull her hand back then, putting both to her lap, her tone resigned::

WolfsFlesh [ 8:49 PM ]:  No...for my..assumptions..I'm sorry.

MystieRose LeFey [8:50 PM]:  ::That got her gaze back up, wary and puzzled::

WolfsFlesh [8:52 PM]:  ::he was tongue tied and confused for a moment and couldnt speak...he swallowed:: When I look at you..when I'm around you...I forget what I am..

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:53 PM ]:  ::Her laugh was abrupt and strangled as she cut if off:: Then Im the one with assumptions ...

WolfsFlesh [ 8:53 PM ]:  ::a little tilt of his head:: how so?

MystieRose LeFey [ 8:57 PM ]:  I ... forget.  ::The confession cost::  I dont think very much about what I am, who I am.  With you, I am just ... what I am.

WolfsFlesh [ 8:59 PM ]:  something we both have in common I think...::he made an uncalculated move and slid his long fingers gently through her hair::

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:01 PM ]:  ::Nearly bolted, felt her muscles gather to flee, and only after refocusing on him did she subside the impulse:: Why did you do that? ::She still felt the imprint, the tingling along her scalp and down her spine::

WolfsFlesh [ 9:04 PM ]:  ::he withdrew his hand again and shrugged softly:: I just wanted to see..what it felt like..::the sound of his own voice was starting to grind on his nerves::

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:06 PM ]:  ::She didnt know what propelled her.  Maybe some of her latent abilities from her other life lingered, maybe it was empathy.  She came up from her kneel, balancing on her knees, her hand going to his throat, as though to strangle, yet her fingers were gentle as they made a downward stroking motion::

WolfsFlesh [9:08 PM]:  ::there was a slight growl after clearing his throat as he felt her fingers against his fur..the muscles in his neck tightened then relaxed:: how does it feel...

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:10 PM ]:  It .. sounded like your voice hurt ::She withdrew her hand, not confused exactly::

WolfsFlesh [ 9:12 PM ]:  The growl i hear in my head sounds so inhuman at times...Thankfully the look on your face..that I see sometimes..give me hope

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:13 PM ]:  Is it so important to be .. human?  Or even appear so?

WolfsFlesh [ 9:14 PM ]:  I don't want people to fear me...and I dont want to lose who I am inside.

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:15 PM ]:  Who are you, inside?  The man?  ::She sat back to her heels again, still close::

WolfsFlesh [9:16 PM]:  I am Lycanthro...::he managed a slight grin:: I am whoever you want me to be

MystieRose LeFey [9:18 PM]:  ::Amusement suddenly bubbled but it only showed in the quirk of one corner of her lips::  Sure.

WolfsFlesh [ 9:21 PM ]:  ::he winked at her and stood up..hunched over as usual and gave another rub to his head:: Silly...

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:21 PM ]:  ::The amusement faded instantly::  You arent leaving?

WolfsFlesh [ 9:23 PM ]:  Leaving?...No..not leaving.  Just, changing positions.

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:24 PM ]:  ::Thought about that for a moment::  You havent gone out of control for several nights.  Do you want to go somewhere else instead of here?

WolfsFlesh [ 9:27 PM ]:  I don't have anywhere else to go.  This place is...comforting. ::nodded to himself and looked around the place..crouching down a bit more:: Can I ask you a question...and you answer it honestly

MystieRose LeFey [9:28 PM]:  ::She felt the immediate defensiveness creep into her shoulders, but she nodded slowly:: I will always try ::Didnt add - for him::

WolfsFlesh [9:29 PM]:  Will you always keep me at a distance?

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:31 PM ]:  ::Icy cold with shock, she scrambled back .. graceless in her distress.  Legs bent at side angles she just stopped and tried to breathe::  No one .... no one is ... closer ..

WolfsFlesh [ 9:34 PM ]:  ::he nodded:: Thats what I thought... I'm sorry.  ::he turned again and moved back to the writing desk and glanced over the nonsense atop it again..then looked back to her:: Just make sure I never get any closer..

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:35 PM ]:  ::Her eyes hurt and she didnt know why.  She rubbed at them, wondering at the sudden burning::

WolfsFlesh [ 9:36 PM ]:  ::his eyes narrowed slightly:: Are you going to cry?...that's real adult of you Mystie..

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:39 PM ]:  ::The burning intensified at the same time an icy cold feeling filled her chest cavity.  She lifted her head slowly, and with care, she got to her feet.  Without a word she walked to the doorway, turning so her back was against one side, and slid back down, her feet braced against the  other side.  She would use her body to block his exit as best she could.  If he killed her in the process, it didnt matter.::

WolfsFlesh [ 9:42 PM ]:  ::he growled softly:: Come now...why don't you leave me be.  Go back to your tavern where you have some purpose....or go back to the estate with your pretty sister...::bit at his lip:: ohh..I forgot..she has no use for you anymore

MystieRose LeFey [ 9:45 PM ]:  ::Silence was her friend.  It always had been.  She'd forgotten the solace of silence.  He was right, though.  Her purpose was ending.  That, too, held some solace.  It made things easier.:: I will remain until its over.  ::It was said without expression, without anything at all::

Sari Faire & Serra

SerraVBlackheart: ::she'd taken up housing in the forest..the wilderness felt like home...Her body was tired and weak and so was her mind. She rested against the base of a great oak tree, her blade resting across her legs as she focussed on the rooftop of overhanging branches::

Sari of Fey: ::from high in the tree she observed the Justice Angel, ferel eyes gleaming as brightly as the glittering teeth which were well shown as she grinned, tumbling to the ground with apparent abandoned, only to land very lightly in a crouch facing the female::

SerraVBlackheart: Sari..::she said her name to acknowledge her presence..and as greeting..she gave a little sniff as hair was tossed back over her shoulder as she focussed on Sari...her face bringing a small smile to her lips::

Sari of Fey: ::purred and scrambled just a bit closer ... closer enough to rub her fey-dusted cheek against her knee:: Ye scent like him yet yer not ... close but apart .. what severed ye?

SerraVBlackheart: What split us up?...::she leaned back a bit more and pushed her hand through her hair:: He broke the rules...family or not..I had a job to do. He was taken away, I had to stay...

Sari of Fey: ::made a sound that could only be described as derisive:: ye both share honor and ye both carry a darkened heart .. yet ye chose different paths ... yer here now ... and ye hunt the unhuntable ...

SerraVBlackheart: Justice must done...Unlike dear brother..I'm still under contract..as it were..::she grinned slightly and sat her blade on the ground:: But we've both been brought together for a common goal it weems

SerraVBlackheart: *seems

Sari of Fey: Do ye know of dreams? ::her voice shifted to dual mode, both a caress and a warning::

SerraVBlackheart: A little I guess. Why?

Sari of Fey: Ye've gifts within ye ... Im thinkin ye must touch upon them ... tell me

SerraVBlackheart: Gifts?..what gifts?..::she looked at her slightly confused as she tilted her body around to face her fully::

Sari of Fey: tis not my place t'be tellin ye ... ::did a lazy backflip, ending on her stomach flat out, knees bent and ankles crossed, propping her chin in her hand, curiously child-like::

SerraVBlackheart: Sari...I know you arent much for filling in blanks..but I have to know something..::she lay down on her stomach as well..knees bent and feet up in the air..clicking her heels together:: Whats the demon like...?

Sari of Fey: ::a cunning look flittered through her fey-eyes:: clever girl ... ::the dual voice shifted back to the purr:: ye ask well .. ye know already Im thinkin ... tis the nature of the universe ... good draws the evil ... tis a jealous beast, the evil ...

SerraVBlackheart: ::she gave a nod:: I thought so...::she gave a little scratch to her cheek and pursed her lips:: I just realized something today too...

Sari of Fey: mmmmmmm ? ::it could have been a purr or an invitation::

SerraVBlackheart: Theres big trouble coming...and its giving me a purpose that I can grab and feel...It makes me happy..::she grinned a bit through the irony::

Sari of Fey: ::her eyes swirled:: can ye taste the demon? ... feel it with yer pores?

SerraVBlackheart: ::she nodded:: I can...he's here now

Sari of Fey: ye know of balance ... ::another shift in her voice, soothing yet not:: ye know of light and dark ... ye can nae have one without the other ...

SerraVBlackheart: ::she gave a soft nod:: One wonders if the demon realizes that..

Sari of Fey: ye'll be teachin him ... ::rolled over on to her back, arched to her feet and hands in a classic backbend and flipped her legs over, landing on her feet::

SerraVBlackheart: We'll all be teachin' him..::did her best to copy her voice and spun around to sit cross legged..leaning back on the tree trunk again::

Sari of Fey: ::giggled with amusement:: ye've got fine nerve .. ye'll do .. ye'll do .. ::seemed pleased::

SerraVBlackheart: I always have, sugar..:: she picked up her blade from the ground and slipped it into the scabbard strapped to her back:: The graveyard is gonna be buzzing pretty soon I think

Sari of Fey: ::a sudden narrowing of those ferel eyes:: Ye be cautious with yer blade of death ... my child roams the ground of the dead ... ye'll not be takin issue with her ...

SerraVBlackheart: I use my blade for assurance..that what I'm doing is right. ::she gave a firm nod:: There are bad things afoot near the estate and you know that...

Sari of Fey: aye ... just be keepin yer eye sharp ... ye might be tempted but the temptation would be mislead ...

SerraVBlackheart: ::she gave a bite to her lip in thought...blinked and nodded:: When I understand you..the world makes sense..

Sari of Fey: ::her laugh rang out, bouncing from trees and soil and leaves and flowering buds and rippled the air itself::

Christian and Jeni

Jeni Von Richter:  ::The daylight hours waned, and activity picked up ... patients in the castle were attended, and many of the recovering ones were assisted on short or long walks, depending on their condition .. the smell of hot food was comforting even to those that didnt require such food.  Lights along the lanes and around the stables and gardens began to glow as night descended, the castle itself was host to thousands upon thousands of candles, the mixed scent of honey and wood permeated the walls.   She loved the transition and watched from the corner library windows that overlooked her domain::

Christian:  ::He crept onto the grounds, right along the main entrance. He felt tired enough for a hundred lifetimes, and walked like it, too. He was still wasn't used to this body.::

Jeni Von Richter:  ::Charles stepped into view at his side, looking at him without a word, polite in stance, eyes empty of expression::

Christian:  ::He swallowed slightly. He truly wished he wasn't surprised by that. He turned his head slowly to look at the man who appeared aside him.:: I come here peacefully... I just want to talk to her..

Jeni Von Richter:  ::Charles nodded once.  Too-thin fingers flicked towards the door.  He turned those empty eyes forward and walked, seeming indifferent to whether Christian followed along or not::

Christian:  ::So this is what it felt like to be creeped out. Interesting, and deplorable. He used to be able to tell what a creature was made of inside and out, and that he could most likely crush that creature if he wanted to. That gave him a great deal of comfort. That comfort is with him no longer. He followed after the man, if it was a man.::

Jeni Von Richter:  ::They entered and another male closed the door behind them.  Charles paused long enough to exchange a look with him, unspoken words but the eyes gave nothing away.  Then he resumed down the hall, his steps muted by the thick carpet runner.  Along the walls hung masterpieces, each with their own candle-sconce that highlighted the glossy and ancient works.  At the library, his hand closed over the s-curved handle, the click sounding loud as it released::

Christian:  ::He felt almost suffocated by the fact that this Charles person was clearly not as human as he looked, and that he could do absolutely nothing to demonstrate power over him. From a lion to a lamb, and now into the den of the dragon.. probably the most powerful vampire he'd ever met.. surely she was in here, and surely able to read his thoughts, and the fact that he wouldn't be aware of even that made him inwardly maddened even more. He took his cue to walk inside...::

Jeni Von Richter:  ::Jeni turned from her contemplation of the view, her icy warm eyes resting for a moment on Charles, a hint of what might have been a smile tugged the corner of her lips.  Charles responded by a rough sound that manged to express a greeting::  Thank you, Charles ... you do not need to remain .. ::She knew he found the company of others distressful, and would no doubt find this situation more so::  Greetings, Christian .. ::Ever so polite, she gave a graceful move of her hand that indicated he was bidden to take a chair even as she crossed to a side table::  May I offer you a drink? ::She noticed the hesitation of Charles but gave no sign, and no sign was given either when the door finally closed, leaving her alone with Christian::

Christian:  ::He wasn't quick to answer. So easily she gave him welcome, it made him anxious. Wasn't he the one being blamed for almost every bad thing that happened in Nox Noctis? Maybe she already knew, maybe the confidence of being so much higher on the chain than him made him seem laughable...:: I wouldn't know where to start... ::The only thing he had a real thirst for would make him sick now... he hadn't ate or drank anything, upset at his own hunger::

Jeni Von Richter:  ::She just sort of smiled again, aged brandy splashing almost carelessly into a snifter.  She carried it with her.  A hand smoothed her slim skirt as she lowered to a chaise, her ankles crossing delicately ... the brandy swirled almost mesmerizingly in the glass, reflected by the blaze in the man-high fireplace::  Perhaps you should tell me what it is you do need, Christian?  ::She kept those eyes on him, unreadable, neither showing pity, or more appropriately, rage::

Christian:  I'm human, Jeni Von Richter.

Jeni Von Richter:  How ... quaint.  ::A golden brow curved::

Christian:  You.. don't understand. I've always been human..

Jeni Von Richter:  You will have to explain yourself, Christian.  I find it distasteful in the extreme to pry into minds.  Unless it is expedient, I avoid it ... ::At that moment, the dual-doors were flung open and 4 people, in two-by-two entered, each bearing trays which were set on a table.  The smell of hot, nurturing food filled the air::

Christian:  ::He almost jumped. He was screaming inside, and yet a tired, tired scream it was. He hated this. He turned his attention away from the caterers:: When we were first introduced... I claimed to be your cousin. I claimed to be Christian Von Richter... at the time, I truly believed I was both..

Christian:  You did have a cousin from Earth's Germany , named Christian Von Richter... but he died in turf war with a neighboring kingdom.. they raped and pillaged each other's lands, homes, families...

Jeni Von Richter:  ::her expression affected mild interest as she took a delicate and appreciative sip of the brandy::

Jeni Von Richter:  ::There was a faint tightening of her features at his latter statement, the only indication she gave that she might have emotions beneath the surface::

Christian:  ::He began looking at the veins in his wrists now.. pumping human, true human, blood:: I don't know who I am, really... because... my memories were false.. but I'm clean of that now.. I'm a human and I always have been. My earliest, actual memory was of the Circle telling me I had to repent for the sins I committed... but in reality, those sins were of your cousin, not me.. they turned what was human in me into a vampire, they overwrote my real memories with false ones, they made me a man who was dead... they gave me the ghost of a guilty, guilty man, and they made me 'repent'...

Christian:  That's why Nox Noctis was built... I was to be a king again, and maintain a peaceful land for the one I had destroyed..

Christian:  But in the end, it was all a ruse...

Christian:  Nox Noctis was procured because it was the place they needed it to stage their coup..

Christian:  And I was procured to keep watch over it.

Jeni Von Richter:  ::Two females had put together a plate of various finger foods and a cup of mild tea, both approached him deferentially and offered him the personal tray as though he were not spewing out his pain and frustration, their eyes were lowered in politeness::   Why would they choose you for this?  ::Her tone was mild::

Christian:  ::He ignored them. Ah, something was still left:: I don't know. Why do people who are more powerful than other people subject those people to their power with indifference? I don't know. Periodically my memory would begin to return and they would bury me, wait for me to tear through the earth in bloodlust, and have an unconscious woman near me for food..

Christian:  They manipulated me at every step...

Christian:  Anything of a history for me only starts now... this is the closest to 'real' I've ever been..

Jeni Von Richter:  So you take the stance of 'victim', do you?  ::It didnt appear she gave any word or gesture to the women, but the tray was set at the small table by his side and all four left the room::  Disclaiming all responsiblity?

Christian:  I came here because you're the only person that could believe me... not for understanding. I came here knowing full and well that I might not make it out of this place alive.

In truth, I'll probably burn in the fires of hell for all eternity, but I don't really care anymore. I've seen more than any one person should see, and have done more than any one person should do. All I really care about is a woman who'll probably never care about me again..

Jeni Von Richter:  I believe you are human ... not because of your words, but the scent of you and the sound of your heart as it pumps your rich blood through very fragile veins.  I see it in the rise and fall of your chest as you breathe and the change in your smell as your emotions overtake you ... it oozes through your pores.  But know this, Christian ... or whatever name you may eventually decide to call yourself ::which gave tacit indication that he might live:: you carry the stain of your action ... your body carries the cell-memories of your actions whether your mind acknowledges that or not ... and it is that which you will have to deal with, and that which you will have to expunge from your soul ...

Christian:  ::He nodded without response. He swallowed again. That seemed like it was the end. He stood from his chair:: I guess I'll be taking my leave then.. before my welcome wears out..

Jeni Von Richter:  ::That golden brow arched again::  And where do you expect to go, Christian?

Christian:  I don't know.. but I don't have as long to get there as I used to..

Jeni Von Richter:  You are ill-equipped to cope ... you smell like prey and you look like a victim ... and you wear the face of a killer.  How long do you expect to last out there?  ::She remained, as always, cool in her observations::

Christian:  I appreciate the diplomacy, but am I really safe at all here?

Jeni Von Richter:  ::What little warmth was in those icy eyes faded so only the chill was left::  Are you questioning my ability to secure the safety of those within my care?

Christian:  ::He countered:: You never said I was.

Jeni Von Richter:  ::With even more chill::  The moment you stepped into my arena, Christian, you were safe from all ... but me.

 Christian:  I'll remember that.

Jeni Von Richter:  ::One of the doors opened and Charles stood stiffly until she glanced at him, the warmth seeping back into her gaze::  One moment, Charles .. ::She turned back to Christian::  It is your choice.  You may stay for a time ... understanding you will obey the rules set here ... or you may depart and take your chances out there.

Christian:  Why would you help me? You hardly believe me, and it seems you like me even less..

Jeni Von Richter:  You are a refugee of the war ... ::Blandly answered::  Whether I like your not is irrelevant.  ::Her gaze flickered back as Charles made a small shuffle and she gave him a faint reassuring smile::

Christian:  I see.. Well.. Then maybe I will return, if I survive long enough to do it.. After I face her..

Jeni Von Richter:  Who?  ::A slightly sharper look was turned in his direction::

 Christian:  Keli..

Jeni Von Richter:  ::Charles coughed and hastily backed out the door, pulling it with him with a sharp click::  You will not find her ::Stated calmly and took another sip of the brandy after swirling it to release its scent::

Christian:  What.. do you mean...? ::His damnable heart was changing it's pace::

Jeni Von Richter:  Only one could take you to where she is, and that one is no longer mine to summon ... ::spoke idly as though discussing the weather::  Though ... ::paused thoughtfully:: I could inquire ... the choice would be hers, though ... and I would not interfere with that decision ...::A lowering of her lashes to observe the contents of her glass, then they lifted, displaying the glacial blue::

Christian:  If.. if you would... I would be greatly appreciative..

After Christian left the room, accompanied by Charles, Jeni leaned back in the high-backed chaise.
Would Rani come?  Would it be fair to even ask her?  Christian had been responsible for many deaths
and losses.  Jeni remembered an occasion when the gentle Rani had dipped into that dark side,
avenging the death of one of her forest friends by torturing the hunter.

Bringing Rani to Christian might earn him passage to the woman he claimed to love,
or it might herald his death.

The horse nickered.  That was the only warning.  Rani stood at the trailhead, framed by the towering row of trees that bordered the path, moonlight dappling through the thinning leaves.  A lightening flash within the depth of her mysterious eyes and Jeni knew the truth.

This child, this shy, gentle creature had grown in such power that if Jeni were to be unwary, she could possibly be challenged.  Not that the girl offered any.  She stood, her head lowered, deferential and meek.  The midnight hair gleamed with inner light, its frothed ends swaying in the light breeze.

Jeni dismounted, her hand resting along the massive neck of the horse.  She caught the look passed between the beast and the girl.  Ancient eyes met the soft storm, a connection, primal and rich flashed between them.  Jeni's lips tightened.  She would have to take great care, indeed.

'Thank you for coming.  I did not know if you would.'

Rani dropped her eyes to the ground and murmured, 'I will always come if you need me ....'

'I smell fey about you,' Her eyes narrowed in contemplation.  Fey and Vampire were incompatible.  The blood of the Fey could damage a Vampire, though the Fey seemed not to be troubled by the same issue.  Yet she could scent a hint of that intangible magic within the girl.  Was that what gave her the greater power?

Rani didnt answer, her stance changing subtly.  She was poised to flee.

Letting it go, Jeni continued. 'I have a request.  There is a man, human, who wishes to find Keli. He claims he is not Christian Von Richter, though he is the one who's body was used all these years.  I told him I would defer that decision to you.'

Slowly, the raven-haired girl looked up, the meekness falling away.  Her pupils flared open so wide it engulfed the storm, making her eyes fathomless.  A few blinks and the storms emerged, deeper and stronger, tiny flashes of jagged lightening vanishing into the now narrowed pupils.

'I will do as you wish ...' Rani's voice remained as it always was ... gentle.  But Jeni heard beneath the gentleness.

Pity for the man almost changed her mind about taking Rani to him.

Almost.

'Lets go.'
